SwiftKey iPhone keyboardWith iOS 8, it appears that Apple is allowing their device to be more open to users and developers. When the company announced iOS 8 earlier today, one of the new changes in iOS 8 is that the update will allow third-party keyboards in to iOS users. This is currently not possible with iOS 7 and older version, but it’s something that Android has always had. The new changes caught the attention of famous Android keyboard makers Fleksy and Swiftkey. Both developers today announced that they will port their Android keyboard to iOS 8.

SwiftKey’s co-founders Ben Medlock and Jon Reynolds stated that they have already stated the development of Swiftkey for iOS 8:

For more than four years, SwiftKey and our millions of users have pioneered faster, easier typing on touchscreens, leading the industry with next-word prediction and smarter autocorrection. Our technology features on more than 200 million devices to date and we can’t wait to reach more. We first brought a taste of our technology to iOS in January this year with the launch of the free note-taking app SwiftKey Note. Are we going to build SwiftKey Keyboard for iOS 8? Of course we are. We’ve already started.

Fleksy also started developing their keyboard for iOS 8. You can register at their website to be one of the first to get their keyboard for beta testing.
