This security hole ain’t good, any one with an Apple Smart Cover can unlock your locked iPad by following five simple steps. The bug was found on an iPad 2 running iOS 5 but some people have reported that it also works on iOS 4.3 and earlier versions. Even though this bug allows access to the iPad’s home screen, the device will not completely function as when is opened normally typing the correct passcode. To try unlocking an iPad using the Smart Cover, all you have to do is follow this simple steps:

  1. Lock a password protected iPad 2
  2. Hold down power button until iPad 2 reaches turn off slider
  3.  Close Smart Cover
  4. Open Smart Cover
  5. Click cancel on the bottom of the screen
After you unlocked an iPad using this method, you will only be able to have full access to apps that was left open before the iPad got locked. And if it got locked on the SpringBoard, you cannot delete apps — only open them. You can also use the spotlight feature to preview through the iPad files (SMS, E-mails, song, etc).
If this bugs bothers you, you can fix it by disabling Smart Cover unlocking in the General Setting menu.
