    Microsoft removes DRM from Xbox One: no more online check, regional restrictions


    Xbox One Console After seeing Sony PS4 dominate Amazon best seller video games chart for one week straight, Microsoft decided to officially announce the reversal of its DRM policies. Microsoft announced on its Xbox blog how they have removed the 24 hours online check from Xbox One and that now you will be able to play, share, lend, and resell your games just like it can be done with the Xbox 360.

    From Microsoft:

    An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

    Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

    Microsoft’s Don Mattrick also announced the removal of  regional restrictions, games will now be region-free. Mattrick  It was further explained that games downloaded from Xbox Live will be playable offline as well with no restrictions.
